Lately, I have been spending a lot time reflecting on my last three years at BYU-Idaho. I found my fabulous husband, I discovered my passion for nursing, and I have seen my spirit grow leaps and bounds (this new chapter thing is bringing out my sappy side). One lesson that has really been carved in to my mind over the years here is this- AVOID THE SPIRIT OF ENTITLEMENT AT ALL COSTS! President Clark says in order to protect ourselves from the spirit of entitlement we need to be drenched in gratitude.

Lucky for you, you get to read what I have learned about this idea of the spirit of entitlement. Nothing in life comes free, and if you think it does and feel that you are always being shortchanged you will never be happy with what you have because you're poisoned by entitlement. For example, when we get a gift but become jealous because it did not cost as much as so and so's gift rather than being excited and grateful about our awesome present, we're jealous and mad. We feel entitled to more and are unable to be happy. I am a competitive gal and sometimes it is hard not to compare what I have to what my friends/family have.
Despite this, I know that the real joy in my life does not come from fancy possessions or lots of money. It comes from meaningful relationships with those I love. When I look at all that Heavenly Father has blessed me with I know that my trials are trivial and I am one lucky gal. I try to focus on all the things I do have instead of all the things I don't. I am grateful for this lesson that I have learned as a BYU-I student. Folks, drench your life in gratitude and watch the joy fill your home.
