lesson learned

Lately, I have been spending a lot time reflecting on my last three years at BYU-Idaho.  I found my fabulous husband, I discovered my passion for nursing, and I have seen my spirit grow leaps and bounds (this new chapter thing is bringing out my sappy side).  One lesson that has really been carved in to my mind over the years here is this- AVOID THE SPIRIT OF ENTITLEMENT AT ALL COSTS! President Clark says in order to protect ourselves from the spirit of entitlement we need to be drenched in gratitude

Lucky for you, you get to read what I have learned about this idea of the spirit of entitlement.  Nothing in life comes free, and if you think it does and feel that you are always being shortchanged you will never be happy with what you have because you're poisoned by entitlement.  For example, when we get a gift but become jealous because it did not cost as much as so and so's gift rather than being excited and grateful about our awesome present, we're jealous and mad.  We feel entitled to more and are unable to be happy. I am a competitive gal and sometimes it is hard not to compare what I have to what my friends/family have.

Despite this, I know that the real joy in my life does not come from fancy possessions or lots of money.  It comes from meaningful relationships with those I love. When I look at all that Heavenly Father has blessed me with I know that my trials are trivial and I am one lucky gal. I try to focus on all the things I do have instead of all the things I don't. I am grateful for this lesson that I have learned as a BYU-I student. Folks, drench your life in gratitude and watch the joy fill your home.

rachel's baby shower

You are about to be in stunned by the awesomeness of the baby shower I got to be a part of last weekend. We went all out for our sis Rachel and our future nephew.  My sister in law Jen did most of the work but I helped (trying to make myself feel important here)! It was probably the coolest super hero baby shower...ever.
Here are a few pictures from the photo booth as guests walked in:
Jen, Rachel, Jackie, Me

The bat cave
Food table
Web made out of crate paper. Admit it- you're impressed by Jen's talent.
So, most of the bat cave and food room were Jen and her hubs.  But, I did make this diaper cake.  Which, considering the fact that there is not a creative bone in my body, I think is quite impressive. I love baby showers, and can't wait to meet Rick and Rachel's baby boy!! Over and out.

take one at blogging

I suppose it is time I jump on the blogging bandwagon. I have never been the best at writing in a journal, but, I am hoping to be better at blogging.  We have lots of fun things going on in the next few weeks.  So, it seemed like a good time to start...Here goes nothing friends!

In less than three weeks, we will graduate with our bachelors.  My sweet husband Scott Brent is getting his bachelors in mechanical engineering and I am getting my bachelors in nursing! Good-bye student life for me- HOORAY! And hello grad school in the fall for sweet Scott.  He is going to George Mason University and studying electrical engineering with an emphasis in signal processing (he's a smarty pants, i know). In July I completed my associate degree and since August when I got my RN I have been working as a nurse.  I now work for a home health company as a private duty nurse.  I work night shifts in the home of a pediatric patient.  It has been a challenging first job, but, I have learned a lot and am so grateful for the experiences I have gained.

In a little over four weeks, we move across the country... have we started packing? Well, we have done one box....one billion to go!  Moving back to Northern Virgina is going to be bittersweet for me.  I love Virginia- I love the history, the beautiful landscape, the summer sun, the girlies I grew up with and my family (I am a big time momma's girl.  I call her at least once a day. Nbd.).  But, Idaho is  our home.  We have made the most unforgettable friends and memories with them.  Chandra and Schyler, Nycole and John, Rachel and Steven, Becca and Christian.  Y'all are our people.  These guys have taught me to see the glass have full rather than half empty.  Instead of complaining about when things go wrong or what nifty toys or clothes they don't have, they talk about all of the good. They recognize God's hand on every turn. Whenever I leave their presence I feel uplifted.  You all have helped me to be better.  And don't even get me started on my amazing family out here.  I have THE BEST in laws ever. See?

I feel like this is one of those those times in life that it is important to write about. The close of one chapter and the beginning of another. Scott and I have been so blessed. We have opportunities and are so excited for our next step. God is good. Life is great.
